Babies in Phoenix

At the end of March, our family geared up for a big two week trip away from home and headed to Phoenix and then Davidson. The trip served a few purposes: 1. Mitch had a conference to attend in Phoenix, which coincided with A's Spring Training; 2. We needed to be out of our house in order to complete painting, repairs, and staging before the house went on the market and then had a couple open houses; 3. We wanted to do some house hunting in Davidson, and also interview nanny candidates. Packing for such a long trip was quite a feat, as was getting everything into the van and through the airport. One of our friends, David, was nice enough to drive us to the airport in our minivan and then drive the van back to our house (and pick us up when we returned). We had tried to time our drive to the airport with the boys' morning nap, but they took a little longer than expected to fall asleep and had to get up at the airport. So they were definitely tired at the end of the flight to Phoenix.

so much stuff!!!

The first leg of our trip brought us to Phoenix, where we stayed at a two bedroom condo in Tempe that we found on Airbnb. It was really great to have the kitchen, extra space, and separate bedrooms that we wouldn't have gotten at a hotel. I had contacted our Airbnb host in advance, and she was super accommodating and let me send some diapers and food pouches prior to our arrival. She also boarded up the windows in the babies' room so it'd be dark for naps and night time. So nice! We brought along two Baby Bjorn travel cribs, our video monitor, and sound machine...and the babies slept really well for naps and night time! It helped that AZ didn't have a time change from CA, so we kept the same schedule during our week in Tempe.

The day after we arrived, we were lucky enough to meet up with our friends, Ryan and Chris. We got brunch together and then went to an A's Spring Training game in nearby Mesa. Noah was cranky at brunch, and then calmed down after a dose of baby Motrin. He was not happy about his top tooth coming in, I guess! Once we were at the game and the babies had gotten some naps in, they were having a ball (pun intended). Noah especially enjoyed slapping the table and dancing to music with Ryan and Chris. The rest of our time in Tempe/Phoenix was a mix of work and play, both in and out of the condo. We took the boys on walks around the neighborhood, to a nice children's museum, a fancy shopping mall, another A's game, etc. Mama and Dada also kept busy with work and the conference. Before we knew it, our week in Phoenix was done.

We timed our flight out of Phoenix to Charlotte so that the boys would nap before the flight. We decided to hop in the car early and drive around longer so the boys could have a longer, uninterrupted nap. While doing so, we got to hit up a nice coffee spot and the public market in Downtown Phoenix. Overall, it was a nice, but not super exciting week in Arizona. Most of the highlights were related to the boys: Micah learned to crawl, Noah got a new tooth, the boys took baths together for the first time (and loved it), and both boys discovered how much fun it was to play with an empty plastic water bottle. :)
