Logan at Five Months

Little baby Logan is now five months old (and change)! Right around the time she turned five months, she learned how to roll from her back to her tummy, and now she can roll right and left, back to front. She hasn't tried rolling front to back yet, but is pretty content to be on her tummy and rotate around her play mat on all fours + belly.

The new development in rolling also meant that it was time to transition her out of her swaddle. We use the Love to Dream 50/50 swaddle, which was designed with removable "wings" to make for a smooth transition out of swaddling. We started by unzipping one wing, so one arm remained inside the swaddle and one arm was out. After a couple of days of sleeping like that (which mostly went well; better at night than at nap time), we unzipped the other wing and she was completely out of her swaddle. She was already sleeping in her crib full-time, so the transition went well, in general, though we've found that she likes to have her arms covered when she sleeps. So at nap time, we put a long sleeve shirt over her cloths, and at night time, she wears regular pajamas now (she had been wearing a short-sleeved bodysuit in her swaddle since it was so warm this summer).

Speaking of sleep, Logan continues to be a good sleeper. She takes two 1.5-2 hour naps in the morning and afternoon (average wake time of 2 hours now), and then a short catnap around dinner-time to help get her to bedtime. She has learned to go to sleep on her own pretty well, though, as with any baby, there are times when she wakes up early from her nap or after her first sleep cycle (45 minutes) after bedtime. How we handle it depends on the day & situation. Sometimes, we'll let her cry for a bit and she goes back to sleep. Other times, usually in a nap wake-up situation, we (or Monica) will help her go back to sleep with some rocking or feeding. At night, she generally sleeps 10-12 hours straight, with an 8:30 pm bedtime, and sometimes needs to be fed around 6 am, after which she goes back to sleep until 8:15 or 8:30 am. Since she sleeps in a little on the late side, when we get the boys up around 7:30-7:40 am, we have been ushering them into our bedroom to use the bathroom, read books, and play a bit on the bed until we head downstairs a little after 8 am for breakfast.

In other Logan news, she is a BIG girl now, weighing nearly 19 pounds now, according to our home scale. She is busting out of all of her 6 month clothes, and some of the new 9 month clothes are also quite snug on our butterball. It's fun to have an excuse to buy new baby clothes for her though ;). I can't deny it; buying baby girl clothes is way more fun than buying baby/toddler boy clothes. It's also a good thing that I've purchased more clothes, because baby girl is drooling a ton and needing fresh, dry tops every once in a while, as well as fresh, clean bottoms when she has her blowout diapers. Ha ha. Baby girl is, as Mitch says, so cute you'd never guess how disgusting she really is. We love her a ton though, and don't mind the yucky parts of baby-rearing too much.
